After the recent release and success of Nike’s SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Pink Pig‘ that took inspiration and it’s nickname from Porsche’s 1971 917, and made its name in the Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race, Nike SB draw inspiration once more from a vintage Porsche 917, this time the iconic 1970 Gulf Race Car. Dressing up the Dunk Low in a Blue Chill, White and Safety Orange colourway with an embroidered ’58’ sign off on the heel panel, the similarities are more than obvious.

When doing the trade shows back in 2019 we had an interesting conversation with the guy behind Sunray (producers of some of the finest cotton garments around), and he dropped a couple of bits of knowledge that stuck with us. He described the process and costing behind the developement and research of colour that companies undergo. None more so than the automobile industries. With that in mind, it more than makes sense for Nike to pay homage to Porsche’s choice of paint job!
