A couple of heavyweight hitters in the streetwear scene have joined forces to produce an eye catching capsule collection of cool clothing that will bring out your inner spirit animal! We warmly present to you Wacko Maria x Carhartt WIP.

Cult classic Tokyo based clothing company Wacko Maria were granted access to Carhartt WIP’s vast archive to reinterpret a tight capsule of Carhartt classics in a Wacko sty-lee. Familiar Wacko Maria design cues can’t be missed, with leopard print & gothic lettering featuring heavily throughout.
Core classics like Carhartt WIP’s Active & Detroit Jackets get reworked with leopard pop linings, whilst the American Script stuff has Carhartt’s type face switched out for a classic gothic font seen regularly in Wacko’s own gear. The Skate pant pays homage to regular offenders in Wacko’s mainline & sit a little wider than Carhartt’s classic Sid Pant. The Chase beanie sits akin to the America Script line.

There are two schools of thought here at Wellgosh; one suggests that the best bits from this collection play on subtlety in design, the art of knowing when enough is enough, i.e. the American Script t-shirts, sweatshirts & beanies. There is a lot of validity in this argument, & I’d like to spend most of the coming months in great quality heavyweight basics with a Tokyo twist that turns heads of heads. However I personally sit on the other side of the fence, where letting a bunch of mad heads like Wacko Maria’s design team go wild (excuse the pun) will get the best results. Stand out pieces for me are the two shirts; the all over leopard print & the black 50s shirt with leopard pops. Its like the perfect marriage of the two companies, shirting (an area of expertise for Wacko Maria) made on Carhartt WIP’s blocks (a reassuringly familiar cut) & priced somewhere in between. Go hard or go home I say. Wellgosh Love

The Wacko Maria x Carhartt WIP capsule launches 10/10/20 & is available over on launches.wellgosh.com now. We Salute!
